A University of Geneva (Université diamond state Genève) occurs as university within Geneva, Switzerland. It was founded by John Calvin in 1559. At first the theological seminary, it also taught law. It remained heavy theological into the 17th century, at which point it began adding more disciplines when it became a center for Enlightenment scholarship. Inside 1873 it dropped its religious associations and acquired a lay status of University. Now it plays a leading role around numbers of fields--its location withwithwithin Genevthe gives it a prime location for diplomatic & international affairs studies, & these are as well considered among the top research project universities in Europe, making notable discoveries in planetary science and genetics, among other fields.
